song 176

 Song 176

Hey everyone, welcome back to the blog! I thought I would do something a little differently, I usually write reviews about songs and albums that I like. But today, I'd like to do one that I don't really like. The song is Holy Visions by AFI, this is a band that I really like. But lately their new songs haven't been what I expect from them, of course this is all just one person's opinion. Some of you might like the new songs, and that's just fine. Now let's get into the review.

I'm gonna start with the intro, now the intro sounds okay. Kind of reminds me of Creeper a bit. It's more of the arrangement that I don't like on this track, if it were set up better I think I would like it more. The vocals are alright, I do like Davey's voice but this song just isn't it for me. Also on the vocal part, it just sounds kind of distorted. I don't like how unstable his voice sounds on this track. It sounds like 80s rock but in a bad way, if that makes any sense. I'm also not a fan of the lyrics, mostly because they kind of sound jumbled up. The only words you can hear clearly are "Holy Visions." But I do have an auditory processing thing, so maybe it would sound clearer to someone else. Now at the end, the lyrics sound clearer. Probably because it slows down, as it gets near the outro. I found the lyrics, so I'll put them in now. "When the pen hides from my hand, it leaves me free to keep digging. Underground there is a man, ever glowing calling me home. Holy visions, holy visions understand. Holy visions, holy visions while in my left hand. Holding cheap beads, I'm going up and down. The rosary, holy visions. When the sun drops out of sight, it leaves me free. To flutter reckless, underground there is a girl, a glowing girl. Burning brightly, calling me home. Holy visions, holy visions understand. Holy visions, holy visions while in my left hand. Holding cheap beads, I'm going up and down the rosary. Lights, and nothing less. Catching up high, all around your neck. Sheep, beats, or sore scarlet. Catching up high, or drinks, all around your neck. Holy visions, holy visions understand. Holy visions while in my left hand, holding cheap beads, I'm going up and down the rosary. Going up and down the rosary. Holding cheap beads, I'm going up and down the rosary. Holy visions." Okay, now that I can see the lyrics laid out. I do like them, and the meaning behind them. But I think this all comes back to how the song is arranged, I need more rock less synth.

That wraps up my first time, reviewing a song I didn't like. I hope you enjoyed it, and I hope my opinion doesn't effect your decision to listen to it. I will see you in the next one, happy listening!
