Song 116
Welcome back to the blog! Today I'm taking things in a different direction, with a review of a cover. So as most of you will probably know, Bring Me The Horizon released a cover of Oasis's song Wonderwall. That's the song I will be reviewing today. I will also make some comparisons between the two of them. So starting off, I never really liked the original version of this song. I always thought it was kind of lifeless, with the way the band sang it. There wasn't a lot of emotion put into the singing. But BMTH has a lot more energy involved in this one. As well as rearranging the structure of the original version, with more of a rock vibe. There isn't really an intro in the beginning, it just goes straight into the first verse. I believe the original song also didn't have an intro, of course I could be wrong. I don't listen to that one a lot. The first verse: "Today is gonna be the day, that they're gonna throw it back to you. By now you should've somehow realized what you gotta do. I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do about you, now about you now." I'm not really sure what this song is about, but I do like how BMTH incorperated screaming into this. It makes the song feel edgier. After the first verse, there's a instrumental section. This part sounds so sick, in the best possible way. The second verse: "Backbeat, the word is on the street, that the fire in your heart is out. I'm sure you've heard it all before but you never really had a doubt." There was more after this part, but it's just a repeat of one of the lines. The pre-chorus : "And all the roads we have to walk are winding (every step I take) and all the lights that lead us there are blinding. (Is another mistake) There are many things that I would like to say to you. But I don't know how." Ok, I think I'm starting to get an idea of what this song is about. But I won't say it, to let you figure it out. Next we move on to the chorus: "Cause maybe you're gonna be the one that saves me, and after all you're my wonderwall." No comment on this part, other than I like how it sounds. This next part of the song, has a different meaning than the previous verse it was in. "Today was gonna be the day, but they'll never throw it back to you. By now you should've somehow realized what you're not to do." There is definitely, a stronger sound here. I love it, music always amazes me. I love how musicians can rearrange, and manipulate music into something new. There's another instrumental part after the pre-chorus and the chorus repeats. There's no bridge in this song, which is fine not all songs need them. Then the outro just kind of fades out at the end. Can we just take a moment to appreciate Oli Sykes vocals, because the man can sing! Oh my gosh is he great! I don't like every BMTH song, but the ones I do like I think are fabulous. Well, whether you're a fan of the original song, or the covers. I think everyone can get something out of this. Personally I like this version better, the vocals and the arrangement make the song more pleasurable to listen to.
That is all I have to say about this cover, I hope you consider checking it out. Until next time, happy listening :)
