Song 109

 Song 109

Hello everybody! Welcome back to the blog! Today I have another song by The Used that I want to review, so here we go :)  The song is called Dark Days. Not to be confused with The Funeral Portrait's song Dark thoughts. The intro starts off slow, we have some light strumming. I'm not sure from which instrument, if it's an acoustic guitar, electric, or bass. But to me it sounds like it could be acoustic. Then the intro picks up, into this rock melody. With more of the electric guitar thrown in there. As well as the drums. I'm not that great at picking up on beat patterns, but if I had to guess. I would say it's a 1, 2, 3, 4 type of pattern. The way is song is laid out, it's kind of confusing for me. It's hard to section it off like I usually do, so I'm just gonna write out all of the lyrics. Then I'll analyze them as best as I can. The lyrics: "I see the way the sun sets in your face, our love is too big for us to break. You've got me wishing for the stars in outer space, I'm holding onto this for life and love, and for the possibility you and me. Let me be, I need to find a way. To put this struggle behind us, can't spend my life in shame. Making light of these dark days, I see the way that the rain spits in your face. Just falling upon your lips to taste, if I could give to you the stars in outer space. I'm holding onto this for life, and love and for. The possibility, you and me. Let me be, I need to find a way. To put this struggle behind us, can't spend my life in shame. Making light of these dark days, another time and place. To put this struggle behind us, can't spend my life in shame. Making light of these dark days. So far away, so far away. Look into your heart, and let time heal this pain. We're not so far away." Ok, I got most of this out. I think it's enough to understand what the song is about. I'm now going to write the outro, because this part of the song slows down. Plus it's pretty. "I need someone that makes me come home, I need someone to never fall in love. I need someone who really loves you, I resign time, resign time." So throughout most of this song, it seems like there's this person who makes his life better. Someone who is his light in the dark. Which is why this song has the title Dark Days. But then we get to the outro, and as the last line is said, it seems as though he lets that person go. This song goes from really sweet, and romantic and loving, to heartbreaking. It's amazing how, song story telling takes place. Because I've mentioned this before, how songs are basically stories set to music. The story they were telling here, was one of love and loss. Song writers just amaze me to no end, their ability to write such meaningful and relatable words set to music. It's just so cool, and special to me.

Well that's it for this review, I really hope I have convinced you listen to this song. Oh I forgot to mention, this song is off an EP of theirs. From 2008 called shallow believer. So if you want to check out the other songs on this EP you can :) See you next time!
