Song 222
Hello everyone, welocme back to the blog! Today's review is Twisting the Knife by Ice Nine Kills ft. Mckenna Grace. This is from the new Scream movie, now I'm not a horror fan but I do love this song, I think it's very pretty. So let's get into it!
Starting with the intro, we have this hauntingly beautiful siren call. Mixed with piano, and this heavier sound. Then we're into the first verse: "This devastation. Follows me, follows me, constanlty calling me. I can't escape it. Helplessly, helplessly (hung up on history) Face to face with deja vu, when the ghost in me is you." I like how this is arranged, we have Spencer and Mckenna switching back and forth with the vocals. It starts out really soft and haunting, which makes sense for what this song is for. Then it gets heavier as we get into the chrous: "Can you honestly promise me, I won't be left here to die? I'm screaming for my life because. Honestly I'm not afraid till it's me twisting the knife. So I'm screaming for my life again." I think they're implying that the killer is them, and they're afraid of what they could be capable of. Also Spencer and Mckenna's voices sound really good together! They blend so perfectly. The second verse: "This force of nature. Follows me, follows me, constantly calling me. The voice grows stranger. Helplessly, helplessly hung up on history. My grace, I'm right on cue. Make a scene, I'll make one too." I have a theory, I think that ghost face is inside their heads, and that's the voice that they're talking about. He's the one, saying these things inside their minds. Making them go a little crazy. And it just goes to show how poerful the voices in our heads can be. The chorus repeats again, blending into the bridge: "Barely breathig, violently shaking and bleeding. I buried the past for a reason. There's always more room in the grave, the grave, the grave." Buried the past for a reason, yup. The past is past, and my dad believes that the past doesn't exist. Which is why you can't go back. If some things are meant to be in the past, then that's where they should stay. Then there's an instrumental part, it has that siren haunting call again mixed with some drum action. Then the chorus repeats, and also the bridge repeats for a final time. The outro, has that siren call again, and at the very end. We have some vocals from Spener "(Honestly, I'm not afraid till it's me twisting the knife)" I think that's a cool way to end the song. I like this one, because it reminds us that we don't know what we're capable until put in certain siutations, and also how powerful our inner thoughts can be, and the affect it has on us. Very well done Ice Nine Kills, and I didn't know Mckenna Grace could sing until I heard this, she's really good!
Very good song, and if you're a Scream fan, I'm sure you'll enjoy this as well. The music video is actually really good too. So be sure to check that out! This is my last review for this month! I will see you all in March! RAWR XD <3
