Song 218
Hello everyone, welcome back to the blog! Today I'm reviewing Off With Her Head by Icon For Hire! They are a punk band from 2011, well actually I would say kind of scene punk as the genre. They still make music to this day, and I think they're really cool. So let's get into it!
Starting with the intro, we have this really nice beat going on. Love the heaviness of the guitar, it sounds really cool. This brings us into the first verse: "I'm lucky if I ever see the light of day again, my skin is choking me, my feeble walls are closing in. This cell is filled with scholars easing me, they're teasing me. They told me so I didn't know the fall would be this easy." I really like the lyrics on this, thought provoking and raw. Just how I like it. The pre-chorus: "How long until it starts to do me in? I can't give out what I'm not breathing in. I know they'll come with what I'm owed, guilty as charged. My enemies belittle me, reminding me the penalty of all my deeds despite my pleas is death." This section here, is said quite fast. I like it though, it still fits in with the melody. The chorus: "I don't let go cause I don't wanna be this, I don't wanna be this. Death is mine I know. I don't let go, don't let go. Save your own, cause I don't wanna be this, I don't wanna be this. Death is mine I know. Don't let go, don't let go. Savior." This chorus is really catchy, and very dance worthy. I also love Ariel's vocals. (She's the lead singer) They're really nice on this track. The second verse: "Your way to life has only showed me what a fool I am, it serves the purpose of confirming I remain condemned. And I will ever linger on the edge, unless you hear me." Beautiful, and powerful all at the same time. Music should make you feel something, when real people connect us with our emotions in songs, that's how you know it's a good one. The pre-chorus and the chorus repeat, and there's no bridge. Just a little electronic sounding voice modification on the chorus after this really cool instrumental part. Then the chorus repeats a final time, with a little bit of an outro. And also the last note is drawn out, which sounds awesome! Then the instrumental fades out. The music video is also pretty cool, and you should check that out as well.
That's it for this review, I hope you consider checking it out. Both the song and the music video, and I will see you all next time! RAWR <3
