song 193

 Song 193

Hello everyone, welcome to the blog! Today's song is off of Set It Off's new album! It's called What's In It For Me? I feel like they've gone back to their roots with this album, including this song. It sounds like their old stuff. So let's get into it!

The intro starts off as a nice acoustic session, leading into the heavier stuff. The intro also has lyrics, but it's kind of a spoiler for the chorus. So I won't put that in there. There's an instrumental part after the intro, which is your guitar and drum combo. Bringing us into the first verse: "Bleed me dry until your lips are tired, and let's save all the small talk. I know there's something you want, it's my demise. My pain is how you thrive, you're desperate for attention. But I don't read my mentions." Very interesting lines here, I'm not sure how to decipher them. So I'll leave that up to you. The pre-chorus: "So, run, run your mouth all you want. Too bad the beat goes on and on, and I can't be stopped, it must sting. To have no effect on me. Cause all your misguided rage just, paves my way to greatness." I like this section. The chorus: "You take it all, leave nothing on the bone. Can't make it on your own, don't latch on to me. Your colors show in shades while at your lowest, begging me for more, you're down on your knees. But what's in it for me?" I think I get it now, he gives and gives, but all the other person does is take from him. I can relate to this. One thing about Set It Off they usually have very relatable songs. There's an instrumental part after the chorus, then we move on to the second verse: "How dare I try to put up half a fight? You're terrified of friction, against your lethal fiction. Is obsession the trend? You're at it again, when you tell all your friends how evil I am. Armed with scarlet letters, thought that you'd know better." Very good song writing, and the melody on this song is very catchy and hooks you in. Then the pre-chorus repeats with an added line "Cause all your misguided rage can't f*** me up." That's a very healthy way of moving on, by not letting it bother you anymore. Then the chorus repeats, bringing us into the bridge: "(You take and take and take) (You take and take and take) (You take and take and take) You take and take until I've got nothing left. Yeah." That sounds about right, I honestly think I would have given more if things haven't ended between my ex and I. I am very thankful to be out of that. Then the chorus repeats for a final time. With an outro of "What's in it for me?" repeating three times. It's actually a really nice outro. and Cody's voice is amazing! Very well done Set It Off, the album has some bangers on it for sure! Although I don't like every song, but that's just my opinion. I do however love this song, and I hope you check it out!

Until next time, happy listening! :) RAWR <3

  1. This one seems like it could be a bit hard to decider at times. I get the premise and can understand the concept. I enjoy the diversity in the songs that are reviewed, they are very different in their own way. I think alot of these types of songs are summed up in the chorus, even if you don't get the meaning of the lyrics. One things for sure all of these songs are very interesting and meaningful, not like the filler songs you used to hear. Awesome review can't wait til the next one.
