song 174

 Song 174

Hey everybody! Welcome back to the blog! It's been kind of slow for new releases, but I think we might get more soon. Until then I have some songs are new to me, the first one I'm starting with is Split Personality by Hot Milk! They seem to be a duo group, from what I've seen in terms of pictures. They are also from Manchester in England, which is so cool. A lot of bands stem from there, and you know it just feeds into my love for the UK. So here we go!

We start with the intro, which sounds very static like, and scratchy. But then gets more into the beat, with the guitar and the drums, as well as some electronic stuff. This brings us into the first verse: "I'm a sociopath with a little taste for ketamine, (Problematic with taste for dramatics) Manny got me wet, but it's never gonna get me clean. (Cinematic display of fanatics) Can I dissipate in an 808 state, where the love and the hate come as lines on a plate? Well, how do you choose when your brain's cut in two? Cause I've been seduced, making friends with the noose." I love the backing vocals on this track, they are very clean and scream in a perfect state. I like the song writing on this, only I think it's too early in the song to really know what's going on here. We jump into the chorus: "Sedate, I'm sick of being awake. So hold me down and put me in a sedated state, cause this split personality's the enemy inside of me." Oh, okay. That's why the song is called split personality, they feel like there's two sides in a constant battle inside their head. I wonder if this is how Geminis feel? Anyway there's a brief instrumental part, before the second verse starts: "I need a second or two for an inner revolution, (Mind's erratic, I'm trying to hide it) A nuclear nosebleed is never the solution. (Symptomatic of unhealthy habits) Spiders, they spread from the depths of my head. They scurry and whisper, they want to be fed. Push safety pins through my mouth for my sins, are my hands dirty now? Shall I bleed through my skin?" Ooh, I love cryptic lyrics like this! Especially if a message is hidden within it. They're saying how their mind is scattered, like spiders crawling around in there. I totally feel this, my mind wanders a lot. I'm an overthinker, I try not to be. But sometimes I can't help it. The chorus repeats again, then there's the bridge: "Hide my dark side, no one can tell. Chloroform me through this living hell, not in pain, it's the pain in me. So sing me back to sleep." I just like this part, that's all I have to say here lol. The chorus repeats three more times, then there's the outro which sounds really cool. It has that fading effect, that I've mentioned before. I just really like the fade, it's a nice way to slowly bring you out of a moment.

That's it for this review, I hope you consider checking it out. I will see you in the next one, happy listening!
