Song 71
Hello everyone, welcome back to music reviews! Today's song is Barely Breathing by From Ashes To New! Never heard of this band before, but I really love this song and think it's really good. So let's get into it! Not much of an intro with this song, we kind of jump straight into verse 1: "Now you're leaving, I'm the one who's bleeding. Cut out a piece of me, and now I'm barely breathing. It was all a game to you, and I'm the one that played the fool. I let you feed me to your demons, and nothing that I say or do, will ever be enough for you. So F my feelings, I don't need them." Honestly I picked a perfect song to how I'm feeling, just this first verse was enough to put things into perspective. When I can't find the words, music always knows just what to say for me. Moving on to the pre-chorus: "(Yeah) you were my heroin, you used to get me high. But all you cared about was selling me a lie. You always used to lift me up, you always used to pick me up. But now you wanna give me up, and bury me alive." This part here, kind of makes me think the story is about attachment issues. Which I personally have, or maybe they're just scared of losing someone. I also can relate. Then we have the chorus: "Now you're leaving, I'm the one who's bleeding. Cut out a piece of me, and now I'm barely breathing. Give me a reason, you're silent when I'm screaming. You took a piece of me, and now I'm barely breathing." I feel like this line, is about intense heartbreak. Because it does feel like you can't breathe, and I'm always scared of people leaving. (I did not realize how relatable this song was) Verse 2: "I wish I would've known the truth, cause I'd have run away from you. You sold a lie, and I believed it. And everything you put me through, is gonna come back to you. And if it kills you, then we're even." Whoa that last line was pretty revenge core, but I get what they're saying. If the other person ends up getting hurt as well, then it makes the other person feel better. At least for a little while. Then the pre-chorus changes in the second round: "You were my world, buy my head was in the stars. But then you burned me out and left me in the dark, you used to lift me up. You always used to pick me up, but now you wanna give me up, it's tearing me apart." Now I'm getting a rejection vibe from these lyrics. I can't imagine someone wanting to give another person up, or give up on that person. Even if it doesn't work out, you don't give up on those you love. Then the chorus repeats, and there's a little instrumental part before the bridge. Then we have the bridge: "Take me back to what we had, just take me back, cause I'm barely breathing. Take me back to what we had, just take me back (to what we had)" Grieving a relationship is really hard on the soul, mind, and body. This person is begging for time to rewind, to be with them again. As much as we would like to, we can't change the past. The best thing we can do is move forward, and try our hardest to stay positive. Not much of an outro on this song, it just ends with lyrics. Which is ok, I like these endings. Now that I have analyzed the lyrics, I move on to the music part. I really like the vocals on this song, one of the people has a gravelly voice. Where they can go from soft to kind of hardcore. There's for sure drums on this track, can't really hear much guitar. I think there's technology involved with this track, kind of drowning out the other instruments. There's also some rapping style vocals on this as well. But not the type of rapping you're thinking of, it's clear and fits with the song really well. I like the beat, it's a great one to take out your anger on. Music is one of the ways I express myself, when words aren't enough. There's also like a pause in the music, before it drops again. I always love that in songs, especially when you're lip synching. It adds more of a dramatic flair.
That's it for this one, I hope you check it out. Thanks for the views on these, and I will see you in the next one.
