Song 67
Hello my fellow music nerds welcome back to the blog, today's song that I will be reviewing is Comatose by Skillet. I chose this song for a specific reason, I won't say why because I'm gonna let the song do the talking. Let's just say it describes how I feel about a certain person. Okay on with the song. Skillet is a band you wouldn't expect me to listen to, since they are a Christian rock band, and I'm a pantheist. But I still love them, their lead singer has a killer voice and I really love the lyrics of this song. So the intro has some string instruments, perhaps a violin or something along that line. Then we're hit with the drums, followed by the guitar. You hear those big base drums working, all of these blend so well together. Then we have the first verse: "I hate feeling like this, I'm so tired of trying to fight this. I'm asleep and all I dream of is waking up to you. Tell me that you will listen, your touch is what I'm missing. And the I hide, I realize I'm slowly losing you." Yeah that pretty much explains what's inside my heart. I like the way he sings this first part, starts of kind of low and romantic. First the prechorus: "Comatose, I'll never wake up without an overdose of you." Then you're hit with the chorus, where he gets more into it. Let's his emotions out: I don't wanna live, I don't wanna breathe. Just to feel you next to me, you take the pain I feel. Waking up to you never felt so real, I don't wanna sleep, I don't wanna dream. Cause my dreams don't comfort me. The way you make me feel, waking up to you never felt so real." Sometimes our dreams try to tell us things, and other times they don't comfort us at all. But at the same time, you wanna believe it can happen. Then the second verse: "I hate living without you, dead wrong to ever doubt you. But my demons lay in waiting. Tempting me away, oh how I adore you, oh how I thirst for you, oh how I need you." That first line there, that really hit me. I did have to live without them for awhile, and it was so hard. But that's in the past now. Then we have the bridge, which isn't really a full a bridge: Breathing life, waking up, my eyes, open up, Comatose." It's simple, yet so much is said through those few short phrases. There's also a faint piano sound, I think it's in there. It's very subtle if it is, but I hear something that sounds like a piano. I have always been interested in the process of how songs are put together, I find it so cool how they splice different sounds, and instruments together to form such amazing work. This song is also fun to lip synch too hehe, I also like to sing this one. Because I have a connection with this song, and it makes me feel like I'm singing it to someone special.
That is it for this review, I hope you consider giving it a listen. And until next time, keep rocking out, and stay safe :)
