Song 101

 Song 101

Happy New Year everyone! :) I’m back from my break! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season, and if you don’t celebrate anything then I hope you had a good week :) let’s get back into the blog! Today’s song is Suffocate City by The Funeral Portrait ft. Spencer Charnas from Ice Nine Kills! This song is amazing, like the whole melody and lyric combo is just next level! The intro has that nice scratchy sound that I love. Bringing us into the first verse: "Suffocate, we graduated with a fever. So full of confidence and ready to achieve, but it's all just a fallacy. Yeah, seven years a true believer. You wake up choking with a pillow on your face, every plan made, erased." I'm not exactly sure what they mean by that, but let's move on to the pre-chorus: "And now we're never getting out, never getting out of here. They say just settle down, you're never getting out of this place. Welcome to suffocate city." I think what they mean here is, feeling stuck. The sense you get when something doesn't feel right, or it's just not the right thing for you. You feel stuck, you want to leave but at the same time you feel like you can't. The chorus is kind of the same as the pre-chorus, only there's another part to it. "You think you've had enough, but boy that's just the half of it. Because when they pull the plug, you're getting out of this place. Welcome to suffocate city." That feeling stuck state, can feel like you're suffocating. I like how they portrayed that. Second verse: "Negotiated like a crisis, you come out swinging with a list of your demands. But they're already making plans. Don't get too high and mighty for your britches or you might end up in stitches. They'll have their pound of flesh, feel the hands around your neck." This is where Spencer comes in. He has an incredible voice. What he's saying here, is don't get a big head. Stay humble, because no one likes someone who is braggy or full of themself. The bridge: "Oh, oh. I'm suffocating. Never thought it would end this way, told myself I could finally break. Break the cycle of this cage, but there's no escape." Deep stuff. I think this is a really cool song, and The Funeral Portrait are a great band. I've reviewed some of their songs before. I highly recommend you check them out, and I hope I have convinced you to take a listen to this masterpiece. :)
